‘A brilliantly entertaining performance’ - @katiekiwi123

The Storychest

For our first ever project we developed our storychest, which is a lovely Victorian travelling chest. Whenever we open it… Magic happens! Or rather stories, which we think are pretty much the same thing.

Everything for the tale comes out of the chest, whether a burst of flame, a magic wand, or a dragon! At Quill & Inkling we like to utilise masks, puppets and the occasional bout of sword play to give a memorable and magical story to our audiences.

‘fantastic storytelling… we loved it’ - @karenthegeordie

Since 2014 we have worked with English Heritage, providing a number of specially curated performances of varying themes, including medieval, Music Hall, folk tales and renaissance medicine. Not only do we include a variety of performing styles but have also provided additional activities such as face painting and our sword school to name but a few. Wherever we are we always draw inspiration from the local area, seeking out interesting points of history and add our own twist or perhaps unearth a fable long forgotten.

Would your like to book the Storychest?

Our shows are very simple to set up, each story lasting approximately twenty minutes. Two actors will engage with the audience and immerse them within the tale, making the format appropriate for family audiences.

We are very flexible with travel and are happy to work around the country. With some notice we can even research stories from a local area to perform. We will always do our best to make the performances relevant to the area.

In between shows we can provide workshops and events. Masks, sword fighting and create your own story, are some of the workshops we can provide. If you have a specific idea in mind let us know and we shall strive to give you a full and varied programme. Please contact us for more details!
